The RLX is supposed to be the Acura flagship. But to many, it’s a fancy Accord. And its sales show. Just look.
The ILX and TLX are hits, and the MDX and RDX are knocking it out of the park. And then there’s the RLX with a dismal 239 cars sold in May 2015.
Why is this?
Well do you see any difference between the above RLX and this Accord aside from the grille?
It’s a lazy attempt to make the Accord look more luxurious. And considering that this Accord is $34k and offers the nearly the same amount of features as that $61k RLX, it’s no wonder why the RLX is a flop.
What say you?

I would buy it.
Used.

I thought that was an ILX.

Toyota puts a Lexus badge on the Camry/Avalon, but the price diff is a bit less.
However, nothing inherently wrong with a FWD/F-AWD full-size luxury car. The A8 is fairly successful in sales, and there’s also the XTS.
Also, the RLX’s base, the Accord, is much better than the XTS’s base, the Impala.
They made a big mistake by dropping the base model, which started in the mid-40s. Acura should’ve added the extra features and dropped the price. The RLX is fine for 40-50k. But at your price for fully loaded, that’s too close to the LS460.
An RLX Type-S would be awesome. 400 hp from 3.7L V6 :)
The good news is that they’ll likely be exempt from the used Honda tax, so used prices shouldn’t be too bad.
If it had a longitudinal engine like the first-gen RL and TL, I’d like it much more.

You know your luxury band is shit when both Kia and Hyundai have better flagships.

Premium flagships just aren’t a huge market. Look at Lacrosse, RLX, Q70, MKS, K900, and Equus. At that price point 50k and 60k price point you have a ton of great midsizes and performance compacts.

People probably still have a bad taste in their mouths from the previous gen-RL. Electrical gremlins galore, door handles that either burn your hands or keep the car from running, and everything has to come from Japan so maintenance is crazy expensive.

They did

Used is actually a wise choice. These things can depreciate like German cars.

They have a 370 hp RLX hybrid but that costs $70k so nobody bought that.
Used prices are exceptional for these, they depreciate a ton.

That was good. But for the “gotta have everything imaginable” type of people who buy flagships today , the RLX is not coming close.

True.

ILXes have “Lambo” bumpers.

Good point. This is the true halo car for Acura, but I was talking about flagship/large sedans.

True, Acura needs to throw some Honda money at the problem and make a radicly* different car to appeal to original legend owners.
*radicly
lol wut

Acuras, and Hondas in general, hold their value well.

You can probably get a screaming deal on them new, seeing no one is buying them.

Let’s remember here that the NSX is only bring sold as an Acura here- everywhere else it’s a Honda

The rlx and the accord aren't the same car. The accord and the tl share underpinnings. The rlx is the Honda legend in Japan but is a full sized offering.

Nobody wants a FWD $6ok+ Luxo-sedan. The AWD is only available in the hybrid, which most people also don’t want. It also doesn’t help that it’s right in the same price bracket as the 5 Series and E-Class both of whom have names which carry much more weight.

Interesting - hadn’t noticed that but totally true. Get rid of the squid tooth grill and you have a 4dr Huracan, (sort of.)

They need a luxury wagon. The RLX (or whatever it's called) in AWD form, a turbocharged V6, double clutch gearbox, sports suspension, manual, and double clutch gear box.

I say you’re right. I do see a growing amount of TLX’s. It’s starting to grow on me, as well, but I’ll keep my 3G TL :)
But the Lexus ES is, as I like to call it, “a Camry with leather”, and it never had much of a problem selling (though of late, I’ve seen less and less of them, maybe the Avalon is poaching their sales?).

All Acuras are either overpriced Acuras or soccer mom wet dreams.
![]() 06/17/2015 at 07:38 |

Oh yeah, thats true. When you think Honda or Acura. You dont really think performance. Cadillac, a V car comes to mind. Lexus, ISF. BMW, M, Mercedes, AMG, Etc etc.

You couldn't find pictures of the current models?

Hondas and most Acuras hold value well. But I have seen some RLXes with $55k sticker prices for $37k used with only a couple thousand miles.
